Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Karen Snyder and I've been a crafter for about as long as I can remember. I am a stay-at-home-Mama of two beautiful children with a husband who makes my dreams possible.

This blog is about all sorts of crafting. I am a paper-crafter from early days, a jewelry-maker with an unending obsession for chain maille. I make chain maille purses, many of which will be chronicled in this blog as their future owners await their completion. I love metalsmithing. I am an indifferent beader and don't get me anywhere near seed beads... they scatter, screaming to get away from me. I love to try new things, have a short attention span so if its a long-term project... I'm probably not doing it LOL.

If you have questions, ask. If you have tips, share. Same with suggestions - share! I want this to be a great forum for people to brainstorm and problem-solve with a good attitude. Crabby Apples need not respond, this is a feel-good kind of blog :)

Earring Entry 8/27/10

Yes, it is time for the daily earring entry again.  Just one more after this, then its back to once a month again.  I am going to miss this!  Yesterday we talked about our pet peeves, so today let's talk about things that make us smile instead of frown.  Leave a comment on this post to be entered and tell me, what traits do you look for in a friend?  I think this has changed over the years for me, and now at almost-41 what I appreciate most in a friend is honesty and a forthright attitude.  I don't want someone to tell me what I want to hear, nor do I want them to sugar-coat the truth.  I also want my friends to be able to agree to disagree.  I've learned that there will never be anyone with whom I will agree on everything, and I can accept that -- but the other person has to be able to accept that as well.

  1. When I see someone helping a stranger- ex. a teenager carrying a heavy bag for an elderly person. :)

  2. Wow ! I get to be first???
I'll take your thoughts on friends..
I try to surround myself positive personalities.
I will try to bring up someone-but if they have a perpetual negativeness about them I feel the need to limit contact.

Also-to understand we may not always agree, but underneath it all we are still friends..

  4. I look for a friend who will tell me the truth if asked an opinion and someone who, if we dont speak for ages will just pick up where we last left off when we speak next, as if its been no time since we have spoken. A friend who no matter what will be there for you because they know no matter what I will be there for them too!

  5. Sorry I got to the part about makes us smile & posted! LOL I want friends who are honest, trustworthy, who do not gossip about every lil thing they hear, & someone who actually LISTENS to you.... can talk TO them not @ them ;)

  6. what i look in a friend is that she is the one i could share anything without any fear of being betrayed in the end eventually. Trustworthiness and truthfulness are the most important trait for me in a friend, they should just stick around all the time regardless of their benefits and loss :)

  7. Bette, Junie, Mandy and Mia, you are all entered! I love hearing everyone's answers to these questions, and this one especially. Real friendship is sometimes hard to define, but I think we are all doing a pretty good job of defining it today :)

  11. aw man this ones going to make me cry lol honesty is huge for me, and openness, non judgement and the freedom to be who you are and that accepted. there seems to be a lot of non communication in this world at the moment, its damaged many friendships and many hearts, and i think if people were more open to talking and getting the full story, then the world would be easier to live in.

  12. Aww Carla -- sorry, I sure didn't intend for anyone to cry :( I agree that judgement is the world's disease right now. It seems like every time I turn around, someone is being put under a magnifying glass and having their every word and action scrutinized and judged. If there is one lesson I've learned in my life its this: If I wasn't there and watching every single minute, I have NO idea what really happened. You are entered :)

  13. Lisa White said....Friendship, hmmmmm, someone to laugh with, someone to cry with, someone to talk to, someone I can bounce ideas around with, someone who does not indulge in idle gossip, if you tell someone something in confidence, you want to know that it won't be all over town tomorrow.

  16. Absolutely Ashlie -- I think the hardest thing to find sometimes is someone who can hear the truth as well as speak it. You are entered :)

  17. Someone who is honest, loyal and i k now who will always be there for me . on my worst day i just want them to be there even if nothing is said. b/c a true good friend sometimes doesn't have to say anything to make it all ok.
