Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Karen Snyder and I've been a crafter for about as long as I can remember. I am a stay-at-home-Mama of two beautiful children with a husband who makes my dreams possible.

This blog is about all sorts of crafting. I am a paper-crafter from early days, a jewelry-maker with an unending obsession for chain maille. I make chain maille purses, many of which will be chronicled in this blog as their future owners await their completion. I love metalsmithing. I am an indifferent beader and don't get me anywhere near seed beads... they scatter, screaming to get away from me. I love to try new things, have a short attention span so if its a long-term project... I'm probably not doing it LOL.

If you have questions, ask. If you have tips, share. Same with suggestions - share! I want this to be a great forum for people to brainstorm and problem-solve with a good attitude. Crabby Apples need not respond, this is a feel-good kind of blog :)

How to Celebrate 1700 Facebook Fans

In the midst of snow and ice storms here in the Dallas, Texas area, I was bowled over by my Facebook page reaching 1700 fans!  I don't think I will ever get over the thrill that comes every time my page reaches a new milestone :)

So when it came time to put together a give-away piece, I was looking through my beads and couldn't help but be side-tracked by this gorgeous tulip bead by Heather over at Blissful Garden Beads.  If you spend any time around my page, then you know about Heather's beads.  Glorious, that's what they are!  Anyway, I had just a single fuchsia tulip left and had been struggling with what to do with it.  After some fiddling and fussing, this gorgeous pendant is what I created.  In addition to Heather's amazing bead, this design also uses sterling silver and genuine Swarovski crystals.  Winning pendant will come with a black silk pendant cord.

To enter, please leave me a comment and tell me:  What is your favorite flower?  Mine, in case you were wondering, are tulips :)  Entries will remain open through Saturday night and winner will be announced Sunday, February 13th.  Good luck everyone and thank you for bringing me to this milestone!

  3. Such a lovely pendant. My favorite is the forget-me-not. They grow wild in my flower garden and return year after year. My neighbor gave me some 30 some years ago when we moved into our house. She is gone now, but I will never forget her.

  10. LOVE what you've done with Heather's amazing Tulip bead! She is such an amazing lampwork artisan!

I love all things that bloom! But, unfortunately, I am allergic to most all things that bloom. :( Tulips are definitely in the top of my favorites...Among that list are daffodils, flags, hibiscus, gladiolas and cannas!

  17. Well done Karen, an awesome milestone for a remarkable woman!

I like the delicacy of poppies and in New Zealand they are also associated with the brave men who fought and died in the First World War.

  24. For some reason I have always loved white carnations. :). they are my birth flower too, but I think it is more the many layers of white. They are also pretty when made different colors. :). stand your whit carnation in a glass of water with a few drops of a favorite food coloring and as the flower soaks up the water you can watch it change color. :). carnations smell pretty too. :)

My fave flower is the pinky maroon asian lilly, and the reason it is my favourite is because my husband gave me a humungus bunch of them after a really rough patch in our relationship. the card that came along with it was just beautiful and from the heart and, that melted my heart, so much so that I went and got the flower tattooed on my arm. My way of showing my eternal love for him. :)

  45. Congrats on 1700!

My favorite flower is the Purple Lilac Flowers.. I grew up in Ohio and we had a few bushes in our backyard. They would smell so beautiful. I remember going to visit my husbands father and they had a bush with lilacs and we cut them the day I was leaving and I was supposed to bring them home on the plane.. I forgot them:( on the counter. Lilac bushes don't grow very well in Phoenix, so I buy candles and lotions just to be able to smell my favorite flower. I do also remember growing up in Ohio and come spring see my Mother's Tulips popping up though the snow and grass.. If I was to win this I'd give it to my Mother, and thank her for the great memories.. thanks Karen!

  53. Wow, that's a hard question! I think phaleonopsis orchids are my favorite, but I remember my aunt's tulip bed from my childhood..we later lived in her house and there were a few "volunteers" that popped up every year from that old planting. Wonderful work, Karen! I love the construction on this one!

  56. My mother used to be manager of a flower shop and I would go help her out during busy times (that's where I would be right now for Valentines if it was still open...lol). It was there that I fell in love with alstroemeria. It's a rather fragile flower, but my fave to have decorating my table. I also love yellow roses because that was my grandpa's favorite flower and they always remind me of him. Every year we anxiously await the tulips that grow on the side of our house that J.R.'s grandpa planted when he lived here. Beautiful pendant, Karen!
