Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Karen Snyder and I've been a crafter for about as long as I can remember. I am a stay-at-home-Mama of two beautiful children with a husband who makes my dreams possible.

This blog is about all sorts of crafting. I am a paper-crafter from early days, a jewelry-maker with an unending obsession for chain maille. I make chain maille purses, many of which will be chronicled in this blog as their future owners await their completion. I love metalsmithing. I am an indifferent beader and don't get me anywhere near seed beads... they scatter, screaming to get away from me. I love to try new things, have a short attention span so if its a long-term project... I'm probably not doing it LOL.

If you have questions, ask. If you have tips, share. Same with suggestions - share! I want this to be a great forum for people to brainstorm and problem-solve with a good attitude. Crabby Apples need not respond, this is a feel-good kind of blog :)

Appreciating 1600 Facebook Fans!

My friends and fans continue to astound me!  In the midst of a very crazy week, I was given the glorious gift of 1600 Facebook fans - what a lift that is for me!  I want to thank everyone who visited, commented and brought their friends along.

Some of you might know that Bette of GemsCrystalsAndWire and myself are currently hosting The Great Cabochon Challenge.  We have both been abandoned by our Creativity Faeries (they skipped off to the Bahamas with our Cleaning Faeries - last we heard, they'd found a couple of cute Guardian Angels and they have stopped answering their email!) and thought we'd instigate a little frenzied creativity.  In honor of The Great Cabochon Challenge, I decided to make the prize for this give away my all-time favorite thing to do with a cabochon - wrap that baby in chain maille!

The winner will get to choose from a selection of cabs I have on hand (picture coming later this evening on my O. Sebastian page) and whether they'd like to have it wrapped in sterling or copper.  To enter to win, please leave a comment below and tell me how you found my work.  Was it through a friend?  Have you known me since we were kids?  Did you take a ride on the party bus during a Fanning Party?

This give-away will remain open through Friday, January 28th and the winner will be announced Saturday morning.  Good luck everyone!

Pick A Pair of Pendants Winners!

Let me just start by saying "Woot!"  What a great response this give-away got from all of you - I guess the partners thing was a fun way to change it up!  I'll be trying to think of other ways to make it more fun for the next give-away.  But I know that's not why you all are here - you want to know who the lucky winners are, don't you?  Let's get to it!

Random.org's first pick of the evening was comment #39.  If you weed out all of my comments and the extra comments, you'll find that #39 is Anne Phillips of the Anne and Machell Duke team!  The second number it gave me was #5, which happens to be Cyndi Cox of the Cyndi Cox / Judy Taylor mother and daughter team!  The third number it picked was #29, belonging to Dee Ann Crandall of the Dee Ann and Mary Lou Waldrep team!  Congratulations ladies!  I will announce this on my page as well and do my best to track everyone down to let them know.  All three pendants are shown on my fan page in their own album.  Please take a look and let me know which pendant you would like for your prize.

For everyone who didn't win this time, keep an eye on my page.  I'll be posting a coupon code to use for a great discount off these pendants :)  Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement!

How Do I Celebrate 1500 Facebook Fans?

Helm Chain Flower Pendant
With a give-away, of course!  Wow - 1500 Fans!  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that my work would ever draw that many fans!  So much has happened during this incredible journey and I am grateful for every single moment.  Who would believe that less than 6 months ago, my page had less than 200 fans?  To all the people who told me that I couldn't possibly turn my "little hobby" into a profitable business, I'd like to take this opportunity to say, "Doubters don't get the buddy discount!"  LOL!

I announced earlier this week on my page that you would need a partner for this give-away and I'll bet you're wondering why, right?  Well clearly this give-away is going to work just a bit differently than the ones before.  We're going to call this give-away "Pick A Pair of Pendants!"  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me who your partner is.  Each of you will have to visit this blog and leave a comment in order for your team to be entered.  Once the comment period is over, I will use random.org to choose the winning entry.  If your comment is the random winner, both you AND your partner will win a pendant!  You may choose a sterling Nexus, Helm Chain Flower or Romanov pendant and each will include a sterling silver chain.  Since 1500 Fans is such a monumental achievement (at least it is in my book!), I will be giving away three pairs of pendants!
Nexus Pendant

So pick yourself a partner (if you haven't already) and get your comments in!  I will acknowledge each team as entered once both partners have commented.  This contest will remain open a bit longer than usual so that everyone will have a chance to enter.  I will close comments at 2 PM (US CST) on Sunday, January 9th and announce the winners directly after.  Leave a comment and tell me who your partner is and why you chose them!  Best of luck to everyone and thank you for making my journey on Facebook such a fabulous experience!

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for commenting and sharing their favorite Christmas memories.  We're already well on our way to the next milestone and, of course, there will be another give-away when we get there.

I'm wishing you all a wonderful, safe Holiday Season!

My Christmas Gift? 1400 Facebook Fans!

I received a wonderful Christmas present this year - 1400 Facebook Fans!  I am so thankful for each and every fan!  This has been such an amazing year for me and my little jewelry business!  Thank you, all of you, for being a part of this journey with me and making it such a joy.

So, I bet you are wondering what the give-away entails, right?  The picture you see is of a brand new item of mine, not even available in my shops yet.  I've made a couple as Christmas gifts and have gotten such a great response that I thought this would make the perfect give-away item.  This is my new Romanov micro maille ring, made in sterling silver with a single Swarovski crystal.  The winner will get to choose the size they need as well as the color of crystal they would like.  Since it's the Holiday Season, I am also including a $10 gift credit for Auntie Goat's Favorite Soap's shop.  For those of you who don't know, this soap is one of my most favorite things (I'm having an Oprah moment, aren't I?) and I even include samples of it in my shipped packages.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post with your name and email address and tell me:  What was your favorite Christmas present ever?  My favorite Christmas present ever was the first unicorn I received from my parents when I was about 8 years old.  I still have it packed away with the rest of my unicorn collection, waiting for the day my kids are old enough to look and not touch.  To me, it was my parents recognizing how whimsical and fanciful I am and encouraging those things :)

The entries will stay open until Friday evening at 8 pm (US, CST), at which time I will draw a winner.  Thank you everyone for participating and helping to make my Christmas one of the merriest I've ever had!

...And They Lived Happily Ever After!

You want to know how the fairy tale ends, don't you?  LOL!  Let's get right to it then.  The winner of the 1300 Facebook Fans earrings is comment #27 (excluding my comments) so our winner is Miss Kimm!  I have sent you an email from KSnyder169@aol.com with instructions on how to claim your prize.  Congratulations Miss Kimm and thank you for participating :)

Now for a name!  I'd like to thank every one of you who submitted a name for these earrings!  They were all wonderful!  (I'm going to ask you all for help naming pieces more often too!)  I had to choose just one though and after a lot of thought, I've decided to name these earrings "EnWraptured Maille"!  Kristen Natale will receive a pair of these earrings for the winning name submission.  Congratulations Kristen!

Thank you all so much for helping to make my business such a success and for sharing me with your friends!  May all of you receive blessings and joy this Holiday Season!

A 1300 Facebook Fans Fairytale

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a young man named Chain Maille.  He was handsome, rugged and strong.  As he strolled along one day, he spotted a beautiful young woman.  Chain Maille was anything but shy, so he sat down beside her and struck up a conversation.  Chain Maille learned that the young woman's name was Wire Wrapping and he fell immediately in love with her strength and beauty.  Chain Maille courted Wire Wrapping, taking her to places like the museum and the theatre, and they were soon engaged.  Chain Maille wanted to do something special to show his love for Wire Wrapping and asked the Royal Jeweler (hey, it's my Fairy Tale... I can be a Royal Jeweler if I want!!!) to make a pair of earrings to show Wire Wrapping how he felt about her.  These are those earrings :)

The Royal Jeweler constructed these from pure sterling silver.  She chose to wire-wrap lovely components with 26 gauge wire and a few amethyst Swarovski crystals, then suspend them from sections of Byzantine.  The Royal Jeweler is very proud of them!

If you would like to own these Fairy Tale Earrings, simply leave a comment on this post with your name and email address.  While you are here commenting, perhaps you'd like to help the Royal Jeweler name this earring design?  If the name you think up is chosen, you will win a pair of earrings too!  This drawing will be open until Sunday evening, November 28 at 8 pm, at which time a winner will be chosen.
